Fruits are the fleshy and edible parts of plants that are sweet and juicy. Fruits have seeds or pits inside them. Fruits without seeds or pits are called berries.
Do All Fruits Have Seeds or Pits?
All fruits have seeds or pits, but not all of them have a hard skin that needs to be peeled off before eating. Some common fruits that don’t have a hard outer skin include strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries and cherries.
It’s a common misconception that all fruits have seeds or pits. In fact, some fruits are seedless and others have a small number of seeds.
The following fruit categories are examples of those that are commonly encountered:
Seedless Fruits – There are many types of seedless fruits such as bananas, pineapples, kiwis and watermelons. These are often referred to as berries but they can also be classified as drupes or pomes.
Barely Covered Seeds – A good example of this is the avocado which has a pit that is barely covered by flesh. The pit itself is not edible but it does provide some texture which makes this fruit particularly popular for use in guacamole dishes and salads.
Semi-Covered Seeds – This is similar to the barely covered seeds category but rather than being barely covered, these seeds are partially covered by flesh such as with strawberries or plums (and if you think about it, most stone fruits).
Some fruits have seeds in them. Other fruits do not.
Fruits with seeds or pits are called “stone fruits.” These include peaches, plums, nectarines, apricots and cherries.
Fruits without seeds or pits are called “soft fruits.” They include strawberries, blueberries and raspberries.
Many soft fruits are also called berries because they grow on plants that are classified as berry bushes.
Some soft fruits may have a single seed inside them, such as a blackberry or an olive. But most soft fruits don’t have seeds at all!
Grapes, melons, and watermelons are examples of fruits that grow from seeds.
Some fruits have seeds on the outside (like a tomato), while others have them on the inside (like an apple). Some fruits have just one seed, while others may have dozens or even hundreds. And some fruits don’t even have seeds at all.
Here are some common fruits and whether they have seeds or not:
Fruits are the mature ovary of seed plants, and are usually sweet and juicy. The fruit of a plant is part of the flowering structure, which includes the stem, leaves, flowers and fruits. In many species, the fruit incorporates an accessory structure called a hypanthium that aids in the reproductive process by acting as a protective cover and acting as a site for seed dispersal.
A wide variety of plant parts may be eaten as fruit. Fruits are generally defined as sweet or sour to taste. They are often used to make jams or jellies or to eat raw, but they also are eaten cooked (e.g., baked apples). Some fruits can be eaten raw; others must be cooked first: examples include avocados and tomatoes (which are technically fruits) as well as eggplants, bananas, mangoes and papayas (which are technically berries).
Some fruits have seeds on the outside of their fleshy pulp; these seeds can be removed from their outer covering by rubbing them with one’s fingers or biting into them slightly. Such fruits include apples (and other pome fruits), peaches (and other drupes), cherries (and other drupes), oranges (and other citrus)
There are many different types of fruits, but most of them are edible. Some varieties have seeds or pits, and others don’t.
Fruits without Seeds or Pits
There are plenty of fruits that don’t have seeds or pits. For example, bananas and avocados are the most commonly consumed seedless fruits in the world. Other examples include apples, grapes, pears and tomatoes.
Fruits with Seeds on the Outside
Some fruits contain seeds on the outside that can be eaten as well as inside. A popular example is watermelon which has large seeds on its outer fleshy part. Other examples include cucumbers, mangoes and melons. Most melons have edible seeds on their outer fleshy part while cucumbers have edible seeds inside their inner fleshy part. Mangoes also contain edible seeds inside their inner fleshy part but these are smaller than cucumber seeds and harder to eat whole because they’re harder to chew through than cucumber seeds.
Fruits with One Seed
There are also several varieties of fruit that only contain one seed instead of multiple ones like most other types of fruit do such as apples and oranges which only have one seed each whereas most other
Fruits are the ripened ovary of a flowering plant. The ovary is the part of the flower that contains the seeds. It’s not uncommon to find fruits with seeds or pits, but there are some fruits that have no seeds at all.
Fruit comes in many forms and sizes. Some fruits grow on trees and bushes; others grow on vines and lianas (woody climbers). Some grow on shrubs or small trees, such as berries and cherries. Others are grown in the ground, such as melons, tomatoes, pumpkins and squash.

Fruits are the ripened ovaries of flowers, consisting of the seeds within the ovary. The fleshy fruit of a plant that is sweet and edible in most cases is termed a vegetable. The term “fruit” has been extended to include some nuts that are not botanical fruits.Fruits are generally eaten by animals, including humans, and they are usually sweet or sour. Examples include apples, oranges, lemons, strawberries, pineapples, melons, bananas and mangos.
Fruit can be eaten fresh or preserved in sugar or syrup for later use.
Many fruits have multiple layers of tissue; most fruits have their seeds on the inside of their fleshy layer (exceptions include citrus fruits), but some plants produce seeds on the outside of their fleshy fruit and these are known as accessory fruits. Fleshy fruit is produced from an ovary with one or more compartments filled with ovules which contain egg cells; all common fruits develop from a single carpel (with two compartments), whereas multiple (more than three) carpels result in multiple fruits developing at the same time (e.g. corn). A compound fruit is one that develops from several flowers
Fruit is the ripened ovary of a flowering plant. In botanical usage, a fruit is the ripened ovary or carpel that contains seeds and develops from the floral tube (carpel) of the flower. Fruits are usually sweet or sour, but in some species both sweet and sour varieties exist. Fruits with juicy flesh inside are commonly called berries. In everyday language, however, “fruit” typically refers to such crops as strawberries, blueberries, oranges, grapes, and apples.
Fruit are a staple of human diet in many parts of the world; they also provide essential nutrients for both humans and wildlife. Fruit is also central to many cultural traditions in various societies around the world and can be used metaphorically in literature (see fruit allegory). Some fruits have high amounts of vitamin C (ascorbic acid) or provitamin A carotenoids (alpha-carotene), which may have benefits for eye health [1][2][3]. Fruits play an important role in human nutrition because they contain vitamins, minerals and fiber that can be obtained from very few other sources.
Most fruits do not contain significant amounts of protein or fat; however some fruits such as avocado do contain small amounts
The seed is the part of a plant that grows into a new plant. A seed will contain all the genetic information needed for the new plant to grow, including some food for the baby plant to eat after it sprouts.
Seeds come in many shapes and sizes, from tiny dust-like seeds like those of orchids or dandelions to large seeds like those of broccoli and watermelon. Seeds are usually produced from flowers, but sometimes they can be produced by other plant parts such as leaves (as in the case of maple trees). Some plants produce only male or female flowers. These plants do not produce seeds at all. Instead, their pollen is carried by the wind or insects to another flower on another plant where it fertilizes an egg cell (ovule) inside that flower’s ovary. The ovary develops into a fruit containing one seed (a single seed fruit). Other plants produce both male and female flowers on the same plant (dioecious), while yet others produce either male or female flowers on separate plants (monoecious).
Some plants produce more than one type of fruit on each tree or shrub; these may be different sizes or colors and often have different flavors as well
